Clean Air NY, an initiative sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation in support of region-wide air-quality efforts, is proud to welcome Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc. as a Clean Air NY Champion.
Clean Air NY is a network of thousands of individuals, employers, employees, and community organizations in the New York metro area that is committed to the idea that every person can help make the air healthier. The program seeks to reduce vehicle miles traveled in the metro area by promoting simple changes to everyday travel such as taking mass transit, combining trips, car-pooling, bicycling and walking.
Clean Air NY partners with employers to distribute information on Air Quality Action Days, when it is especially important to be mindful of the air quality. Prior to or on these particular days, Clean Air NY sends an e-mail to let partners know that an Air Quality Action Day has been forecast for the region. Employers send that e-mail to all of their employees or print the associated flyer and display it on-site in a common area like a cafeteria or break room.
Clean Air NY Champions take additional steps to help their employees change their travel behaviors in ways that benefit the environment every day. This past December, Broadridge’s Edgewood location implemented a pilot internal carpooling program to help employees find others to carpool with instead of riding in single-occupant vehicles. The company also offers the NuRide and Guaranteed Ride Home programs through Long Island Transportation Management, Inc. (LITM). Shuttle service is provided from the local train station to the office. Broadridge employees have also been educated through Lunch ‘n Learn sessions with LITM.
Clean air is good for everyone, including employees and communities. In a recent survey, 42 percent of New Yorkers indicated that air pollution affects the health of at least one member of their household. By joining Clean Air NY, organizations help all New Yorkers breathe and travel easier.
